The Principal Designer (PD) means the designer appointed to plan, manage and monitor the pre-construction phase and coordinate matters relating to health and safety during the pre-construction phase to ensure that, so far as is reasonably practicable, the project is carried out without risks to health or safety.
COMMERCIAL PROJECTS:
If the Commercial Client fails to appoint a Principal Designer, the Client MUST fulfill the duties of the Principal Designer.
DOMESTIC PROJECTS:
If the Domestic Client fails to appoint a Principal Designer, the designer in control of the pre-construction phase of the project IS the Principal Designer (e.g. The Architect).
